The Nanostart Singapore Early Stage Venture Fund I is a closed-end venture capital fund that invests in young, up-and-coming nanotechnology companies based in Singapore. The objective of the fund is to support young high tech companies to develop their latest and most promising nanotechnology advances into commercially successful products and processes and thus enabling them to successfully grow in the world markets. The Nanostart Singapore Early Stage Venture Fund I is managed by Singapore-based Nanostart Asia Pte Ltd and has a total volume of SGD 20 million.
Through the National Research Foundation (NRF), the government of Singapore committed SGD 10 million to the Nanostart Singapore Early Stage Venture Fund I. A similar amount has been committed by Nanostart AG.
Investment strategy
- Focus on sectors where nanotechnology-enabled products have a strong impact on industry development: in particular clean tech, medtech and life sciences
- Looking for companies with products ready for commercialization
- Focus on companies with a highly motivated management team, skilled and experienced in both the technical as well as the entrepreneurial side
- Staged financing in multiple financing rounds, typically with a significant minority equity staker
